{"id":5226,"date":"2015-12-30T07:01:43","date_gmt":"2015-12-30T14:01:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.parkrag.com\/?p=5226"},"modified":"2015-12-30T07:01:43","modified_gmt":"2015-12-30T14:01:43","slug":"european-ski-resorts-turn-to-petting-zoos-to-appease-families","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/v2.parkrag.com\/index.php\/2015\/12\/30\/european-ski-resorts-turn-to-petting-zoos-to-appease-families\/","title":{"rendered":"European Ski Resorts Turn to Petting Zoos to Appease Families"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I know many of us thought last year&#8217;s skiing was bad, but it never looked like this:<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-5227\" src=\"http:\/\/www.parkrag.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/12\/leysin.jpg\" alt=\"leysin\" width=\"740\" height=\"520\" \/><\/p>\n<p>That&#8217;s an image from Leysin, a resort in the Swiss Alps, that is part of an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2015-12-29\/skiing-on-rocks-new-normal-as-climate-change-hits-alpine-resorts\">accompanying Bloomberg article<\/a> on how bad skiing is in Europe right now. It&#8217;s gotten so bad that french resort, Chamonix, has opened a petting zoo for children to keep them entertained.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s an interesting article that provides insight into how Europeans view skiing:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Resorts are raising prices, even with less snow, to limit the number of people that will come to the resorts. Think Vail would\u00a0do that?<\/li>\n<li>Even with no snow, Austrian resorts are still at 80%-90% and France&#8217;s largest resort,\u00a0La Plagne, \u00a0is at 97% capacity.
