If you live anywhere around Park City, you are used to summer road construction. However, you’ve probably never seen anything like what’s going to happen this summer in Summit County. A few years of down revenues and a couple years of delays due to tax petitions has led to extreme pent up demand for road repairs. Add to that capital improvements like new roundabouts and the Utah Department of Transportation taking I-80 down to one lane for repairs on the way to Wanship, and it will take all of our collective patience to make it through the next few months.
One of the single largest additions will be roundabouts at the Silver Summit exit (Home Depot). These changes are being put in place in anticipation of the 1,000 housing units that will soon be added in that area. This will likely have a major impact on those living in Trailside and potentially Promontory. People conducting business at the Home Depot, Burt Brothers, Sherman Williams, or other stores in the area will likely be impacted, too. While it’s likely been planned for, there could also be a impact to the Sheriff’s Department as the Summit County Justice Center is often accessed via Silver Summit. Other major projects will include:
- Reconstructing roads in Summit Park
- Reconstructing part of Old Ranch Road
- Overlaying White Pine Canyon Road
- Reconstructing Landmark Drive
Lots of areas will be getting more minor repairs like slurry seals, overlays, and chip seals including:
- Silver Springs
- Black Hawk
- Silver Summit
- Pinebrook
- Spring Creek
Numerous other smaller repairs will also be made across the county.
The bad news is that we’ll all experience some delays this summer. The good news is that coming out the other side, many of our roads should be near tip-top shape.
Hopefully we’ll all have the patience to make it that far.
